A BILL to amend article one, chapter nine-a of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated section eleven,
relating to authorizing the division of veterans' affairs to
establish a death benefit for families of West Virginia
veterans.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article one, chapter nine-a of the code of West Virginia,
one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto
a new section, designated section eleven, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 1. DIVISION OF VETERANS' AFFAIRS.
§9A-1-11. Veteran' death benefits.

The division of veterans' affairs is hereby authorized and
empowered to establish and maintain a state veterans' death benefit
fund for the families of deceased veterans who died a resident and
citizen of the state and who served in the armed forces of the
United States, including the army, air force, navy, marine corps
and coast guard, and have a discharge other than dishonorable. The
amount of the death benefit shall be determined by the veterans'
council. For the purposes set forth in this article the division
of veterans' affairs is hereby authorized to receive funds by gift,
grant, appropriation or by any other means from any source
available or to become available.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize the Division of
Veterans' Affairs to establish a death benefit for families of West
Virginia veterans.
